Effnet licenses its header compression technology to Thales Alenia Space

Luleå, 2018-10-25 -- Effnet AB, a subsidiary of Effnetplattformen AB and the premier provider of header compression software for wireless and fixed networks, today announced that it has licensed its header compression technology to Thales Alenia Space - one of the world's leading designers of telecommunications satellites.

Header compression technology has its place even in the age of high throughput satellites, fiber networks and 5th generation mobile networks, each capable of delivering multi-gigabit bandwidth. In IP networks, the header information is an overhead on a point-to-point link which can be compressed away to save bandwidth and reduce packet errors. This improves response times and overall user experience of applications. The smaller the payload in relation to the header size, the more pronounced are the benefits of header compression. The key is, of course, the system efficient implementation of this technology that uses minimal memory and CPU to be able to operate on these high packet rate links. This characteristic is also useful on low packet rate links which are often served by low battery, low memory and low CPU power terminals.
